Youth Leadership Program Information
The Youth Leadership Program is for 11-15 year olds who have experience in a camp setting, enjoy the outdoors, and love working with younger kids.  Youth leaders have opportunities to teach a special skill they may have, to join in some exciting activities during a day at camp, and to receive training.

The program consists of two sections:
(summer camp registration link included)

1.

Counselor In Training Program (CITs)
CITs are at least 11 years old:
open to all youth Interested in helping out on site.

What do CITs do at camp?
CITs play board games, read books to kids, help set-up and play a field game, like tag, or monkey ball, during free play.  They give campers a friendly welcome upon arrival.  They help with playshop set-up and clean up.  They might do a funny skit, it all depends on the particular CIT.  It is great when CITs register for specific weeks with themes they enjoy and/or have some skill.

What is the time commitment for CITs?
Hours: 8:30-3:45, with required arrival by 9a.m.
[Young campers who are siblings of CITs may also be picked up at 3:45 at no extra charge. For all other campers ages 5-10, the basic camp day ends at 3:30.]
Required Time Commitment: 1-4 weeks, see blocks available.
Maximum time allowed 4 weeks.

Junior Counselor Program (JCs)
JCs are at least 14 years old
Open to former Monkey Business Camp CITs only (be a CIT one year and you are eligible to apply)

What qualities does Monkey Business Camp look for in potential JCs?
While having similar responsibilities to CITs, JCs are expected to take on additional responsibility.  JCs may be seeking to develop new skills for a future job with children.
The main 3 attributes we are looking for: enthusiasm, initiative, and cooperation.  This could mean different things for each JC, depending on interests and personality.  It could mean:

  • Noticing how the staff needs help and offering assistance
  • Organizing a game of soccer, baseball, tag during a free period
  • Singing a song or leading a game at circle or reading books to kids
  • Helping assist campers with projects, teaching them as you go!
  • Participating in our theme days by dressing up or bringing in items to share
  • Loading and unloading vans and in general helping behind the scenes with set-up and clean-up

What if I am not ready for the responsibilities above?
We know that this might not be for every CIT right now.  If not this summer, maybe next!  You are always welcome to come back as a CIT.  Please try again if the site staff or you feel that it is not the right time.

What is the time commitment for JCs?
Hours: 8:00-3:45 or 10:00-6:00, must arrive on time
[JCs’ sibling campers ages 5-10 can stay until 3:45 or if 10-6 shift, can stay into p.m. care free]
